A native Memphian, with five siblings, born to a social worker and a Bronze Star army soldier, JB Smiley, Jr. knows the value of hard work and a healthy, supportive community.
Surely it was but a coincidence, not an omen, but on Monday evening, at which time Memphis Councilman JB Smiley Jr.’s gubernatorial ambitions were becoming public, a double rainbow appeared in the western sky.
Smiley, 33, filed campaign finance paperwork last week with the state of Tennessee. The paperwork allows a potential Smiley campaign to raise cash for a potential bid for governor.
Two newly minted Memphis City Council members, Michalyn Easter-Thomas and JB Smiley, Jr., see Memphis, and the U.S., as occupying a moment in history that might not come again.
