First 80 Days: Eight Bright Moments On The Trail

We’re only 80 days into our journey to win big for District 8, but we’ve already accomplished so much. From community service activities to FUNdraisers – check out our eight favorite moments so far.

1.District 8 Is Fired Up! We kicked off our campaign at Local Gastropub in Downtown Memphis. As the candidate who’ll advocate for the issues affecting our local community, JB Smiley Jr. had attendees of all ages celebrating along with him. Speakers included City Councilman Martavius Jones, consultant Michael Harris, County Commission Attorney Julian Bolton, and Dr. Lacretia Carroll. Several elected officials, current candidates, and loved ones came out to support – but best of all, numerous residents from throughout the district came out to find out more about our candidate JB Smiley Jr.

2. A Little Music For The Soul. Our first fundraiser was a big success when we took over the Jack Robinson Art Gallery and invited supporters to groove to the sound of Courtney Little and his live band. It was the perfect start to the holiday season and a great  opportunity for friends and  supporters to help JB Smiley Jr. win big for District 8.

3.T-Shirts! Now members of #TeamSmiley can say it with their chest! Our new blue and gold shirts feature the Smiley name in bright, bold lettering. Plus, Smiley’s signature  “smile” is an added touch. Every Team Smiley supporter who donates $20 to the campaign receives a free t-shirt, so if you haven’t donated – well, what are you waiting for?!  Donate HERE.

4.  A Christmas Extravaganza For South Memphis.  When one family learned of the #TeamSmiley toy giveaway, they confided that they weren’t sure how they were going  to  afford gifts for their children this year. That prompted JB Smiley Jr. to co-organize a large Christmas Extravaganza that included a free pizza party, dance party,        sing along, and toy giveaway. Over 200 children and their parents celebrated at the free event, which included Smiley Sr. as our hilariously charming Santa. Thank you to Lee Harris for Shelby County Mayor and Alvin Crook For School Board for helping us deliver an overflow of Christmas Love!

5. Yard Signs Are In! That’s right. Our yard signs are here and we’ll begin delivering them soon. If you live in District 8 and would like a yard sign, complete this simple form and you’ll be at the top of our list.

6.  Our First Phone Bank = Success! The weather tried to slow things down but #TeamSmiley volunteers weren’t having it! We successfully reached hundreds of residents in District 8 and received incredibly warm responses. People are excited to see a candidate who cares about the issues affecting their lives. Are you interested in phone  banking with us? It’s simple and you can even do it virtually from home. Sign up to volunteer here and we’ll get you set up in no time.

7. MLK March + Day Of Service. It was a privilege and an honor for #TeamSmiley to walk alongside the Teamsters Local 667 during this year’s Martin Luther King Jr commemorative march. We met some incredible people along our journey to the National Civil Rights Museum and then spent our afternoon with old and new friends at the museum’s all-day festivities. Join us around town by staying updated in our We Are Team Smiley Facebook group.

8. The Crowd Has Spoken. CrowdPAC welcomed us earlier this month and the response has been fantastic. Several first-time donors have chosen to leave a lasting  imPACt  by making a donation and offering an endorsement. We still have plenty of opportunities for you to help us reach our goal of 100% participation in our fundraising      efforts, so if you haven’t been able to donate yet, please consider donating $5, $20, or $50 to our #TeamSmiley CrowdPAC today.
